Immigrant Rights Advocacy
Immigrant Rights Advocacy Program Through its Immigrant Rights Advocacy Program, Amigos engages in outreach to immigrants and non-immigrants to raise awareness of immigrant rights as human rights; collaborates with allies to educate, organize, and mobilize people on behalf of immigrant rights and immigration reform; and offers speakers and panel participants on human rights topics, particularly topics that relate to U.S. immigration policies and the human rights experiences of immigrants from Latin America.
Amigos supports President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy that will provide protection from deportation for eligible undocumented immigrants who came or were brought to the United States at a young age. For information about DACA, please go to the web site www.uscis.gov/childhoodarrivals
Patricia Cortez, founder and facilitator of Amigos' youth group Juventud FACETA, has received the American Dream Award from CAUSA, Oregon's statewide immigrant rights coalition, for her work with Latino youth!
